 I'm not sure this is the right answer... where is the wsi coming from that
 you call this with?

 If it's not getting called from inside the callback, service may have
 invalidated (closed and free()d) your externally-held wsi at any time.

 If it is getting called from inside the callback, the user pointer should
 be there... or am I missing the point?
