 The spam of POLL-related stuff is OK.

 The SSL_connect() action is statefully handled via the service loop, if it
 indicates it's not ready then it asks for callback-on-writable and tries
 again until it connects or times out.  It looks like it's spinning but
 it's spinning through the service loop so everyone gets a go.

 I think the only way to see what's happening is find out what we are
 giving SSL_connect() that is NULL.  If you add some dumping code at
 client.c:143 to make sure wsi and wsi->ssl is OK at least, and maybe
 rebuild your SSL lib with debug enabled, or install a debug package if
 that idea exists in OSX, then you can see where it dies in SSL_connect and
 get a clue.

 It'll also be good to dump the wsi %p and make sure it's not the dead one,
 if you are required to kill a connection first to get the problem.
