[Libwebsockets] Linux distro packaging.

I've been looking at the state of downstream distribution packaging of
libwebsockets. My goal is to distribute .deb and .rpm packages for my own
application and I was hoping that I could depend on libwebsockets being
available without bundling it in my application.

Debian[1] and Ubuntu[2] has libwebsockets-1.2.2, but that's too old for me.
Fedora[3] doesn't distribute any libwebsockets packages, but there is a
bug[4] requesting review of a package for libwebsockets-1.3
Gentoo[5] seems to have libwebsockets-1.4, or are working on getting it.

Has anyone else looked at this recently or interested in getting it done?

Presumably all other users bundle libwebsockets with their own applications?
